Family Golf
Q. What is the PGA Family Course Program?
A. The PGA of America and U.S. Kids Golf have established The PGA Family Course Program, a nationwide initiative to provide PGA Golf Professionals a means to make golf more enjoyable for all members of a family, regardless of age and ability
Q. How much does it cost to invest in the PGA Family Course Program?
A. PGA Golf Professionals can purchase PGA Family Tee plates in sets of 9 holes at $450 or 18 holes at $899 (plus shipping). Viewing this as an investment, the PGA Family Course Program can generate significant returns.
Project example: If a course has a 9-hole family rate of $10 per person, or $40 for a family of 4, a 9-hole set of PGA Family Tee plates would show a profit after just 12 groups play. Average 12 groups a week over a four-month period, you will generate nearly $10,000 in new incremental revenue. This does not include potential of incremental merchandise or food & beverage sales as well.
PGA Golf Professionals participating in this program receive:
- Tee plates: One PGA blue and one PGA gold tee plate for every hole, including the metal spike for installation.
- Cart path plates: One PGA blue and one PGA gold cart plate for every hole
- Program guidelines: Produced by U.S. Kids, this provides suggested guidelines on course set up, yardages, tee locations, installing cart path plates and more
- Templates: Access to templates for score cards, award certificates and more.
Each golf course is also presented a certificate, suitable for display, recognizing them as an official "PGA Family Course."
Q. How do you install and maintain PGA Family Tee plates?
A. Installing a family course set-up is relatively easy to do. Simply place a PGA blue tee and PGA gold tee plate in the fairway of each hole. Each plate can be installed flushed to the ground so that it does not slow mowing or other maintenance. The plates are held in place by a metal spike, making it easy to move the plates periodically to protect the turf. It is also recommended installing the PGA blue and PGA gold cart path plates perpendicular from each tee plate. History suggests that using plates in both the fairway and cart path make it easier for golfers to find PGA Family Tee plates on each hole. No special tee boxes are required to implement this system. Suggested yardages:
- Level 1 - PGA blue tees Approx. 1,100 Yards for 9 holes
- Level 2 - PGA gold tees Approx. 1,900 Yards for 9 holes
Q. How will The PGA Family Course Program be promoted?
A. Participating facilities are recognized and promoted as official PGA Family Courses, including a complete list of courses on PlayGolfAmerica.com and uskidsgolf.com. In addition, The PGA of America will promote this program and PGA Family Courses through a variety of ongoing public relations efforts. In particular, The PGA Family Course Program will be featured as a primary opportunity for families to play as part of the annual July Family Golf Month promotion.
